Kansas Sepsis Project

On December 14, 2009 the MWCC, in conjunction with the University of Kansas Department of Continuing Medical Education, launched what will become a statewide project of education and quality improvement in the recognition and treatment of severe sepsis.  Continuing education credits for participation in the program are available for physicians, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners through the University of Kansas Department of Continuing Medical Education.  For RNs, continuing education credit is available via the Area Health Education Centers, but at this time, the credit is available only for the didactic components of the program.  The project is supported by grants from the
American College of Chest Physicians, the Chest Foundation, and the University of Kansas Hospital.  We intend that our efforts extend throughout the entire Midwest and ultimately to anywhere in the nation that finds them useful. Here is a presentation about the goals of the project. Please use this form to sign up for the sepsis education and quality improvement project.

Sepsis Project Sign Up Form

The sign up form includes questions about your demographic information, such as name, address, email address, etc., and an option to participate for continuing education credit. The form also asks questions that will help you to think through your current practices in identifying and treating patients with severe sepsis. The sign up form should take no more than five to ten minutes to complete. It asks for some things for which you should just give your best estimate, such as numbers of patients you treat with severe sepsis, and others.

Our web-based program will assign you a password to log in when you are entering information about your patients; please keep it secure, and do not share it with anyone else. Any physician, nurse, or other employee who will participate in collecting and entering the information should sign up for a password.

If you sign up for CME credit, the University of Kansas Department of Continuing Medical Education will contact you with instructions on how to claim your CME credit.
